quick monologue study:  August 29th

How to quickly analyze and learn a monologue on short notice. (K-2, parents are asked to stay and help them with reading and guiding word emphasis choices). This class will give you techniques to quickly familiarize yourself with a monologue and make it the best you can without a great deal of prep time.


Classes start on August 29th

K-2nd grade:  9am to 11am

3rd - 5th grade: 10am to 12pm

6th - 8th grade:  1pm to 3pm

9th - 12th grade:  3pm to 5pm

PHYSICAL ACTING Class - August 1st

This class is full of fun activities that show how emotions and environment affect how we move and communicate, and how that is used on stage to enhance the actor's performance. Be prepared to move, dress comfortable (no dresses/skirts or flip flops). Please wear tennis shoes. Bring your sense of adventure and your imagination!!


Classes are on Tuesday, August 1st

K-2nd grade:  10am to 12pm

3rd-5th grade: 1pm to 3pm

6th-12th grade:  3pm to 5pm

8-Day Monologue Intensive:  August 14 - 24th

The purpose of this class is to train actors to not only look at the words they are speaking, but also the intent behind them. Develop techniques to create believable characters. This course is in-depth and intense, requiring commitment, focus, time and dedication to the pursuit of excellence as a performer. (Mon-Thurs, 2 weeks)



Classes start on August 14th (Mon-Thurs, 2 weeks)

6th-8th grade:  9am to 11am

9th - 12th grade: 12pm to 2pm


PRIVATE ACTING LESSONS BY TRACIE HODGDON: TBD (Limited to first 6 registrants)

A private acting coach will work with your student for 30 minutes each week. Your student will learn techniques for monologues, memorization, analysis and making strong character choices. If they are not strong readers, parents are encouraged to participate in the lessons. Wednesday's, Ages 5-18. Coach will contact for times once registered.

Acting Classes At Northern Starz

beginning stage Management - August 1st - August 29th

Registration Now Open! (9th GRADE through ADULTS)

In this beginning course, you will learn from a professional stage manager and graduate of the Yale School of Drama Stage Management Master of Fine Arts Program, Sonja Thorson. This course will cover the basics of the stage management discipline and how to best stage manage a show at Northern Starz. Through hands on activities, we will go over the role of Stage Managers during rehearsals, tech rehearsals and performances. This course is specifically design for Stage Managing at Northern Starz.


It will also give interested students the option of meeting with one or more of the Stage Managers at the Children's Theatre Company in Minneapolis to show them during different parts of the production process.
